Ella van de Velde Fidock is a Nurse Practitioner and single mother to six incredible children. Having walked the journey of assessment and diagnosis with members of her family, Ella identified the significant barriers that exist in accessing individualised care. This was the spark that created a vision to open Navigating Health. To help others navigate the complexities of health and disability care in a way that truly meets their needs.  

Ella holds a Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Emergency Nursing (graduate with honours), and Master of Nurse Practitioner (graduate with high distinction) at a tertiary level. She holds multiple other qualifications in areas such as, autism foetal alcohol spectrum disorder, management for improvement, university teaching, paediatric oncology and palliative care, eye, ear, nose and throat emergencies. In 2021,  

Ella was the proud recipient of the Queensland Nursing and Midwifery Union- People’s Choice Award 2021 and in 2022 the recipient of the Ged Williams Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship.  

Ella has presented both at local and Australasian events on research and education surrounding topics of neurodiversity, minimising distress, innovation in health service models of care, development of workplace, interpersonal culture, horizontal violence and health workforce planning. 

Ella currently practices in mental health and neurodiversity within private practice, whilst also holding a position as an emergency nurse practitioner. She is the chair of the Queensland Chapter of the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners, chair of a national circle of practice for nurse practitioners working within the mental health and neurodiversity field and a member of the State Wide Nurse Practitioner Advisory Group (SWNPAG). She is passionate about fostering inclusive care that provides equitable access to services and health education to people from diverse populations. Ella collaborates privately with a multi-disciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, general practitioners, and other specialist services to ensure patients receive a high standard of care that aligns with contemporary evidence-based best practice.
