What qualifications do Australian Nurse Practitioners have?
Australian Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses with advanced qualifications and training. They hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in nursing and have completed additional specialised training in their chosen field of practice. NPs are also required to hold endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). This endorsement is only granted to those who meet strict criteria and demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competence, knowledge, and skills in their area of practice.
NPs in Australia are recognised as independent practitioners with the authority to prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and refer patients to other healthcare professionals as needed. They work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to provide high-quality, patient-centered care. Navigating Health is proud to have a team of experienced NPs who are dedicated to delivering exceptional healthcare services to our patients.
Do you bulk bill appointments?
At Navigating Health, we understand that healthcare can be expensive. However, our Nurse Practitioners provide an exceptional level of care that goes beyond a simple consultation. They spend time with each patient, getting to know their medical history, concerns, and goals. They also provide a range of services, such as health assessments, chronic disease management, and preventative care. All of our Nurse Practitioners have a minimum of 3 university qualifications and accrue thousands of hours of advanced practice prior to commencing at our clinic. We recognise the value that they are able to bring to your care.
Bulk billing is a payment option that allows patients to have their consultation fees paid for by Medicare. While this may seem like a convenient option, it does not always reflect the true value of the services provided.
While we understand the importance of bulk billing for many patients, unfortunately, we are unable to offer bulk billing for our Nurse Practitioner consultations at this time. This is due to several reasons, including the cost of providing specialized services, the need to maintain high standards of care, and the limitations of Medicare rebates currently available to patients.
We are excited to see that Medicare have increased the rebates available to patients for Nurse Practitioner services as of July 1st 2024 and can’t wait to see further progress in this space in the near future.
If you have any questions about our billing policies or payment options, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our team is always here to help you navigate your healthcare journey and find the best solutions for your needs.
Can we use NDIS funding to pay for our appointments?
If you are making an appointment for a diagnostic assessment, then this cannot be paid for using NDIS funding. The same is true for any follow up appointments for managing medications and most medical appointments.
If your appointment is being made for disability related health issues, supports or to inform future therapies, then you may use NDIS funding if this aligns with your NDIS goals. It is a requirement that appointments are paid up front regardless of whether you are self, plan or agency managed. You will be provided with a receipt on the day of your appointment to enable you to claim the fees back.
We encourage you to check in with our staff when booking your appointment to clarify if it is suitable to use NDIS funding for the appointment.
How to prepare your child / client for their appointment?
Before the assessment, tell the client that they are coming to see someone who is going to ask questions about their life and help to understand some of the struggles they might be experiencing, we may also do different thinking games with them, and that most people find the games and activities fun. Please avoid describing the appointment as a test or assessment as this may make children feel anxious.
Often, people’s biggest worries are about not knowing if they will know the ‘right’ answers to big questions. Please reassure big and little patients, that there isn’t a right answer. We’re here to help. Our clinicians are incredibly skilled in exploring your experience in a gentle and reassuring way. We often hear from patients that they felt so much more relaxed than they expected during their first visit with us.
We’ve already had assessments with a psychologist and have reports. Can you diagnose based on these?
